WHERE HISTORY MEETS LUXURY

Back in 1956, a group of professionals came together, looking for a spot to build weekend homes and campsites. They pooled their resources and bought a piece of land on the Tchefuncte River called “Emfred,” which had belonged to the Suter family from Bogalusa. As excitement grew, the weekend getaway idea was set aside, and Tchefuncta Club Estates was born as a full-time residential community.

The first 246 homeowners literally drew names from a hat to pick their home sites, and volunteer committees quickly formed to develop the neighborhood’s amenities—like the country club, golf course, nature trails, marina, and public spaces. The spirit of neighbors working together became a cornerstone of the community. Streets were named after birds, trees, and flowers, and by 1959, the infrastructure was set, including water, sewer, and the first underground power lines in Louisiana.

Tchefuncta Country Club opened in 1961 on land leased from the Estates, and by 1969, the golf course expanded to the 18 holes it has today.

This community grew from more than just a desire for profit—it was about preserving a slice of nature and creating a place that people could be proud to call home. Even today, each property owner is part of shaping the future and honoring the past. In 2024, home prices ranged from $260,000 to $2,650,000, depending on the condition, finishes, and location.
